Miles: Zero Emissions Electric Axle Suitable for 12-44t road freight applications

Lead Participant: CONTRACT INNOVATION LIMITED

Abstract

Utilising high speed electric machines and a novel transmission configuration, this project will create a new eAxle design suitable for application in large vehicle applications ranging from 12-44tonnes GVW, including transit bus, coach and freight transport applications. Acceleration, gradeability and maximum speed will match or exceed the existing ICE performance whilst operating 100% electrically with zero emissions. Novel technical content significantly increases part load, low, and high-speed efficiency providing operators with a vehicle performance which is robust to varying usage patterns including payload and drivecycle effects.
The family concept provides both central drive and eAxle configurations with a common core and may be retro fitted into existing vehicles or applied to dedicated EV platforms.
