DADO - Data Analytics Driven by Ontologies

Lead Participant: OBRUSSA LIMITED

Abstract

DADO (Data Analytics Driven by Ontologies) will form the data exploration and analytics layer of Q-mine, a pioneering SaaS for educational assessment. DADO proposes a radical new approach to learning data analytics, in which ontologies, representing learning paths and curricula, are used to shape and control the analytics process. Ontologies will be used in formulating queries, aggregating data for analysis, determining which data mining algorithms to apply, interacting with users and visualising data. This is a bold and highly innovative idea, which could have a major impact in education. Using DADO through Q-mine, non-expert users such as learners, teachers and publishers, will be able to query and interpret educational data on a large scale, in new, sophisticated and valuable ways. Q-mine is itself a carefully designed proposition, which addresses a major market opportunity. The DADO consortium consists of Marketmine, a UK start up which will launch the Q-mine platform, and the University of Southampton, a global leader in e-assessment science.
