Higgs boson physics with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC

Abstract

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN collides protons with a centre of mass energy of 13 TeV. These collisions produce a plethora of new particles, including the recently discovered Higgs boson, with a mass of 125 GeV. Measurements have confirmed that the Higgs boson is consistent with the Standard Model, however not all properties of the Higgs boson have been experimentally tested. This thesis will test measure further properties of the Higgs boson, to understand if the 125 GeV Higgs boson is compatible with the Standard Model, or if it points to beyond-the-Standard-Model physics. Studies to understand the sensitivity of the High Luminosity LHC to the Higgs boson, and the triple-Higgs-coupling will also be presented.
