The political geography of violence in Nigeria: A sub-national approach

Lead Research Organisation: University of Bristol
Department Name: Sociology

Abstract

This study's objective is to explore and explain subnational variation in violent collective action
(henceforth violence) in Nigeria, Africa's largest economy and most populous nation. Through a
mixed methods approach, it will make an original contribution to the literature by investigating how
local political factors interact with socioeconomic ones to shape the likelihood and nature of
violence in space and time.
