This PhD speaks to my existing research interests. My heart is in the third sector and I have a keen interest in its use of big data but I'm keen to develop and hone my research skills as much as possible. The combination offered by this project of big data analysis, social network analysis and third sector development primarily attracted me. The opportunity of the 1+3 pathway also appealed, particularly because it offers applied social research training. The fact that this project has a partner in practice through the collaboration with OSCR and the support in place with the research groups really strengthened my interest in this.
