New Methods for Gravitational Wave Astrophysics

Lead Research Organisation: University of Portsmouth
Department Name: Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation

Abstract

This project will explore new methods for searching gravitational-wave detectors like Advanced LIGO and Virgo. As the detectors are upgraded and reach for new astrophysical sources, new computational techniques are needed to search much larger parameter spaces for new astrophysical sources. We will explore ideas for coherently combining the data streams from multiple-detector networks, and methods for searching for compact binaries where details like large mass ratios and precessing spins become critical.
