Development of High Efficiency Compressor Design

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Mechanical Engineering

Abstract

Turbocharger compressor plays a key role in engine performance and operating range. Due to the intrinsically unsteady environment encountered by the compressor at engine conditions, it was found that the compressor behaviour differs from that estimated under steady assumption, and thus allowing further compressor design optimization to maximize its performance under highly unsteady engine conditions.
The aim of this project is to identify critical areas among the compressor components that may allow further optimisation and will result in an efficiency improvement when operating under engine conditions.
