Transfer induced (d,pF) Fission Reactions in Inverse Kinematics

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

We are proposing to investigate the feasibility of using a solenoid for multimodal detection of transfer-induced fission reactions in inverse kinematics. In particular (d,pF) reactions will be used to extract information on the fission process. The 238U(d,pF) reaction at 10 MeV/u will be used as the test case for this work. We will assess this technique on its ability to measure the height of the fission barrier, angular momentum of fissioning states and fission-fragment distributions which can then be applied to measurements using a range of actinide beams.
