Translation in the 3' UTR and its role in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Sch of Pharmacy

Abstract

Untranslated regions (UTRs) in mRNAs are well known to contain regulators of gene expression, including sequence elements, structures, and upstream open reading frames. Very recently, downstream open reading frames (dORFs) have gained attention as potential regulators of translation, although very little is yet known about them. This project will combine bioinformatic and laboratory-based approaches to investigate downstream open reading frames and other regulatory elements in UTRs, and how these might be dysregulated in disease.
