Particles, Plasma and Electromagnetic Waves in the Inner Heliosphere

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The physics of the solar system plasma in the near-Sun environment presents a major challenge in astrophysics. This is the key region of space responsible for the birth of the solar disturbances that affects the heliosphere andforms the space weather. The new radio observations at decameter wavelength (notably with LOFAR - Low Frequency Array) will bridge the gap and will open new opportunities to study the solar phenomena in the inner heliosphere as well as the progenitors of space weather. The analysis of LOFAR radio data in combination with in-situ NASA Parker Solar Probe close to the Sun will improve our understanding of the processes in the inner heliosphere.
