Small molecule tools to target glucose metabolism in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Lead Research Organisation: Newcastle University
Department Name: Sch of Natural & Environmental Sciences

Abstract

This project aims to modulate glucokinase using small molecule tools to determine whether a reduction in hepatic glucokinase activity has the desired effect of halting the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. More specifically this project involves the design and synthesis of small molecule inhibitors that target glucokinase, from 3 chemical series validated by a high-throughput screening.
