Developing -omics methods to determine if skin active treatments can restore a youthful extracellular matrix in pre- and post-menopausa

Abstract

Within the BBSRC remit of 'advancing the frontiers of bioscience deliver', this project will increase our 'understanding [of] the rules of life' by exploring the fundamental relationships between mechanical regulation of cells and tissues, and circadian rhythm. The basic science elements of this project will be supported by 'transformative technologies': multi-omics analysis (transcriptomic and proteomic), interpreted with advanced bioinformatic and computer-modelling approaches. The successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, physicists, engineers and mathematicians, and will therefore have opportunity to develop a wide range of skills. Outputs from the project will directly contribute to the BBSRC's 'strategic challenge' that looks towards an 'integrated understanding of health': by examining how and why circadian and mechanosensing capacities are dampened in ageing we will be able to direct strategies to improve healthy maintenance of tissue throughout the life course.
