Renewable fuels in the process industries.

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Sch of Engineering

Abstract

This project will examine the behaviour of waste-derived fuels in modern thermal treatment systems. The condition of modern waste-derived fuels plays a significant role in determining their performance when converted either to energy or base chemicals for circular economy applications. The ability to alter the property or structure of these waste is of research interest because this allows for wider deployment and valorisation beyond traditional disposal. Such treatments come at cost and hence optimisation of the cost to upgrading benefit is critical. The analysis will include fuel property determination and characterisation across a variety of scales from standard-based characterisation to in-depth material property characterisation for example XRF, ICP or other spectra-based techniques. This will allow for enhanced decision-making tools when assessing the compatibility of wastes with available valorisation methods.
