Description We have improved a number of estimates for example for 'infinite pinning' i.e., under which circumstances phase boundaries or interfaces become stuck despite arbitrarily large driving forces as well as the pinning of interfaces in elastic media and pinning in heterogeneous media with zero mean (a case often considered in the physics literature). In particular, also some homogenization results have been proved and the boundaries for infinite pinning have been sharpened.

A total of three publications have been written, two of them have been accepted for publication (one is still in print), and one has been submitted to Interfaces and Free Boundaries. A further publication is forthcoming shortly.
Exploitation Route These results are relevant in the engineering sector for example regarding pinning of dislocations or phase boundaries. Some further work in this area is ongoing, for example with a doctoral student funded (who obtained his own funding from FNR Luxembourg)
