UK SKA Band 5

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Oxford Physics

Abstract

One of the major contributions to the design of the Square Kilometre Array from the UK is the Band 3/4/5 feed package. This is a radio receiver that sits at the focus of the SKA-Mid dish antennas and provides receivers at up to five different frequency bands, covering most of the frequency range of the telescope. A rotating platform on the antenna moves the required receiver in to the focus of the dish. The inside of the receiver is cooled to 10 degrees above absolute zero in order to increase its sensitivity. This grant will provide the funding to complete the design of the system.
