Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
 
Description A molecular level understanding of how corrosion occurs on metals. This is the basis for new strategies to detect, prevent and deal with corrosion.
Exploitation Route New models to predict corrosion in old pipelines are being developed in collaboration with the old industry. Notable British Petroleum Ltd.

Description Simulations of the growth of corrosion scales have led to insights that are now being used within the BP-International Centre for Advanced Materials to design new strategies for detecting, preventing and mitigating corrosion in oil field environments.
