Advanced Instrumentation for the Einstein Telescope

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The project deals with the development of advanced technologies and interferometer concepts for future gravitational wave observatories, in particular the Einstein Telescope. Andrei will initially learn essential experimental skills in the Glasgow interferometry lab and other relevant facilities, such as the LIGO detectors or the AEI-10m interferometer. Based on the skills acquired he will be in the ideal position to develop and optimise key components for ET such the interferometer configuration and explore the benefits of alternatives to Michelson interferometers with squeezed light. In addition he will explore various noise reduction and subtraction techniques based on machine learning and other relevant AI techniques.
