Dual and multiple heritage identities in contemporary Wales

Lead Research Organisation: CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
Department Name: Sch of Social Sciences

Abstract

Conceptualisation of this project draws upon Day's (2015) paper outlining the emergence of a distinctive Welsh sociology. Literature similar to the premise of this research proposal is scarce, yet the literature review has uncovered some texts relating to dual or multiple heritage individuals who characterise one of their heritage identities as being Welsh (e.g. Williams, 2002). This research will investigate, through the use of interviews, focus groups, biographical methods and ethnographic observation, the status of Welsh people who identify as having dual or multiple heritage identities; how individuals negotiate these and their relation to citizenship and a 'changing Wales'.
