Unlinking numbers and 4-dimensial topology

Abstract
This project will study aspects of classical knot theory related to smooth topology in 4 dimensions. A particular focus will be the problem of determining which alternating links have unlinking number one using lattice obstructions coming from gauge theory and Heegaard Floer homology.
