Using an intestinal organoid platform to model Crohn's disease and go on to use this model as a platform for drug discovery

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: School of Medicine

Abstract

We are using a recently developed a 3D in vitro model of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using primary tissue biopsy from patients with IBD. These are also referred to as "mini-intestines" and allow us to model complex biological interactions that drive IBD. We shall be using this as a platform for disease modelling and drug discovery. This work shall contribute to furthering the understanding of IBD and the discovery of potential therapeutic applications for improving the lives of those suffering with this condition.
