Abstract
To research the role of independent cinemas in the age of on-demand culture with academic rigour and depth I will focus on the three central pillars of independent cinemas: organisational operations, policy and audience. In doing so my research will aim to investigate both longstanding and urgent issues in the sector in the context of 'on-demand culture' - i.e. the increasingly easy and relatively cheap access to films online via streaming and VoD platforms.
