How can art institutions expand support for non-normative writing practice

Lead Research Organisation: University of Dundee
Department Name: Art and Design Office

Abstract

Working in collaboration with Dundee Contemporary Arts, this practice-led research project will investigate how non-normative art writing can challenge and transform conventions of writerly practice in an art gallery context. Traditional forms of art institutional writing often tend towards the heteronormative, the descriptive and interpretive, though producing new writing, and curating a series of 'live publishing' events, the project will examine how writing can positively grow and transform audience inclusivity in an art institutional arena to develop 'a toolbox' of alternative non-normative writerly methodologies for use in national and international gallery and museum settings.
