Development of Novel Ion Selective Biosensors

Abstract

There is a great need for miniaturised ion sensors for applications ranging from understanding physiology and pathology of the brain (e.g. in epilepsy, brain cancer) to human performance monitoring (e.g. with wearables). The aim of this project is to develop such sensors based on transistors functionalised with ion selective membranes. We will aim to understand the physics of these devices and push them to their performance limits in terms of sensitivity, stability and response time. We will then validate their use in implantable devices using suitable model of neurological disorders.
