Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
Technical Summary
The focus of this project is on soil-plant air bio-geochemistry and elucidating how fundamental processes in grassland soils control denitrification. This project is influenced by and provides information to another North Wyke project (project number 5740) in the 'Grassland, environment and soil systems' Strategic Programme Grant area. This project is also linked with the SoilCIP (Objective 4).

| Description | We have improved our ability to quantify, our process understanding and our ability to manipulate and mitigate biogenic gaseous emissions (including ammonia, nitrous oxide and methane) arising from agricultural sources - in particular from soils and from management of livestock manures. |
| Exploitation Route | Further research is required to develop cost-effective mitigation strategies and to understand the factors which influence the effectiveness of particular mitigation methods. Further development and parameterisation of process-based models using the data arising from this research would be of benefit in assessing potential management and climate influences on these emissions. |

| Description | Results from the research conducted in this award have been used in the development and improvement of the inventories of ammonia and greenhouse gas emissions from UK agriculture, and the development of UK and EU policies aimed at mitigating emissions of these gases. |
