Adding Value to the UK Brassica Crop Science Community (AdVAB)

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Technical Summary

The Brassica research and end-user breeding community have identified a number of important gaps in knowledge and technology that currently limit full exploitation through to oilseed and vegetable crop improvement. Filling current technology gaps will contribute to the ability of the UK Brassica Crop Science and plant science communities to deliver tangible benefits from previous investment, and in particular help translate information from model plants to crops. Our AdVaB partners at RRes and WHRI are making key experimental resources and information available in a usable form, which together with our efforts in creating reverse genetic experimental resources will ensure the UK remains competitive, and underpin trait-based projects as part of the pipeline to crop improvement. The specific objectives of our part of AdVaB are to:
1. Establish reverse genetics tools that maximise the ability to translate information from the complete B. rapa sequence to UK-relevant crop traits.
2. Develop high-efficient transformation protocol for the B. rapa variety, R-O-18.
3. Develop RNAi technology in B. napus and B. oleracea.
