Thermally Assisted Piercing of Acoustic Liners - (TAPACO)

Lead Participant: DENROY PLASTICS LIMITED

Abstract

TAPACO project will address the challenge of producing efficient and environmentally friendly perforated thermoplastic composite sheets with tailored acoustic properties for noise attenuation. It will develop the methodology and hardware for creating the specified perforation pattern in the composite panels without disturbing and cutting the load bearing fibres. The developed technologies will enable the fabrication of more integrated, lightweight and multifunctional structures.

The project will build a demonstrator line where the process will be applied in suitable scale to assess feasibility and effectiveness. Initially, we will consider load bearing noise absorbing liners but the developed technologies and the corresponding technical and scientific know-how will allow to extend the methodology to other industrial sectors. The developed capabilities will increase the attractiveness of thermoplastic composites in relevant applications as they are easily recyclable and can readily contribute to circular economy.
