Development of mathematical algorithms to identify origins of cardiac arrhythmias non-invasively.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

Cardiac arrhythmias are common cardiac diseases causing morbidity and mortality. Current treatment of cardiac arrhythmias includes the use of catheter ablation. However, it is a grand challenge to identify the origin of cardiac arrhythmias as ablation target. In this project, we aim to develop novel numerical algorithms based on multi-scale computer models of the human heart-torso to locate the origin of cardiac arrhythmias, using approaches of both forward and inverse problem solutions. Obtained results will help to design efficient anti-arrhythmic strategy.
