Abstract

Direct metal powder layer-by-layer sintering machines (3D printing) opening up the prospect of making porous lattice structures that can have a positive effect on load bearing orthopaedic implants. It is possible to make implants that have mechanical properties that are similar to natural bone. This will make the implant perform better mechanically and also better bonding with the patient's bone
