Developing nanopore sequencing technology for disease surveillance and reporting

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: School of Veterinary Medicine and Sci

Abstract

The use of DNA sequencing technology will be central to this project as will be the development of tools to analyse sequence data. In preparation for this the rotation will be held within the genomics group of the University's Advanced Data Analysis Centre (ADAC). Highly transferable skills in the areas of bioinformatics, data manipulation and statistics will be gained. Computational analysis of existing data will allow rapid development of confidence in genome assembly and annotation or transcriptome analysis using cutting edge methodologies. In addition, skills in working with bacteria at CL3 are unusual but readily transferable to other dangerous pathogens.
