Homeless Mothers' Experience of Caregiving in Dublin, Ireland

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Social Anthropology

Abstract

The project will investigate how 'care' shapes homeless mothers' processes of self-making. The project seeks to illuminate the ways in which, through caregiving, homeless mothers strive to realise a 'good life' for their loved ones. This will involve a participant-observation study of two accommodation services for homeless mothers in Dublin, which cater for different ages, and offer short- or long-term accommodation respectively. Combining two fieldwork locations will enable a comparison of caregiving at different stages of homelessness, and the temporalities of the mother/child relationship.
