Mechanisms of chronic liver disease associated with Hepatitis C virus genotype infection

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leeds
Department Name: Sch of Molecular & Cellular Biology

Abstract

The project will involve combining precision cut liver slices (PCLS), using technology within Professor Fiona Oakleys' laboratory at Newcastle University, with a variety of virology techniques using state-of-the-art technology at the University of Leeds within Professor Mark Harris's group. Training to work with human pathogenic viruses within the Biological Safety Level 3 laboratory will be conducted. Experiments will include proteomic and transcriptomic analysis of infected PCLS, monitoring of fibrosis markers, as well as, evaluating cell morphology changes by super-resolution and correlative light microscopy. Thus, allowing us to build a detailed picture depicting the effects of HCV genotype 3 on liver cell biology.
