Imaging with Quantum Illumination

Abstract

The resolution of any classical imaging system is limited by the diffraction created by the finite size of the imaging lens. By using a light source that emits pairs of entangled photons and adapting and carefully controlling a low-light camera we aim to show it possible to observe these photons arriving two-by two. By applying camera analysis software to record only these two-by-two events we can form an image from the mid-point (bisector) of each of these events. The image formed from the sum of all the bisectors has a resolution that beats the classical limit by 50%. Using quantum illumination in this way, combined with traditional low light cameras will create a new approach to super-resolution and low noise microscopy. This project aligns to Quantum Technology.
