Experimental Discovery of New Inorganic Materials

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

The project will combine synthetic solid-state chemistry, advanced structural analysis (crystallography) and measurement of physical properties, for the experimental synthesis and detailed characterisation of new inorganic solids.
The project will concentrate on the discovery of new structures in inorganic solids, as exemplified by materials containing multiple anions. Applications of the new structures and materials extend to solid state electrolytes for non-Li containing batteries and other equally important functions.
The project is based in the Materials Innovation Factory at the University of Liverpool. Knowledge and experience in materials synthesis and crystallographic techniques, skills in teamwork and scientific communication, are key skills which will be obtained. There are extensive opportunities to use neutron scattering and synchrotron X-ray facilities, and benefits of national/international research collaboration environment.
