| Description | The project was successful. Using the online map and interactive elements, it delivered against the aims of the funding bid to both move SMG beyond the confines of their gallery walls and encourage the public to get out and about to see history on their streets. Data shared by SMG show that 30K users have engaged with the platform, enjoying over 1000 digital objects and 8 trails (against a target of 100 objects and six trails). Community engagement was successful: although only 15 citizen researchers volunteered (against a target of 20), this was a more than adequate team for the RA to manage, with other organisations (schools, groups, theatres) looking to engage in 2024. The project has challenged SMG staff to think about curation and storytelling differently, how a mix of locales can be used to tell a story and how the museum isn't always the destination, but also about who tells the story and which stories are prioritised. SMG have begun to explore how SA can contribute to diversifying their income by connecting SMG directly to the tourism industry in the area, both town (restaurants/ shops) and country (walking/ hiking). This has involved developing a strategy for (1) advertising on SA and (2) sponsorship of projects using SA. The CEO of SMG, Andrew Clay, is promoting SA to local advisory boards for business and tourism, notwithstanding the political change in North Yorkshire which has delayed his progress. SMG has begun to engage with schools for the 2023/4 year as the project ended. |
| Exploitation Route | Partners SMG are working with colleagues at CU Enterprise to develop the commercial aspects of the project. This includes presenting to policy makers SA as a viable tourism app for the region as well as applying for new funding to commercialise the app. An application to undertake this as a KEF project was awarded a score above the viable baseline but was unfunded. They are applying again. |

| Description | Over 30,000 people have used Scarborough Atlas to explore their local area and SMG's holdings as digital assets. It has developed the community researcher's programme at SMG into a regular volunteering programme, giving local residents the opportunity to work with archivists and narrate stories of the town. Staff have developed IT skills to manage the software. Several funding development opportunities have presented themselves but have not been taken due to the organisation's lack of capacity. The Chief Executive has left and their replacement has only just joined. Changes to the wider political landscape in Scarborough, especially the creation of a regional agency structure, have also led to delays in forward plans. |

| Title | Adding 3D embeds to Humap.me |
| Description | The platform used in this product (humap.me) is a web-based mapping tool. This project encouraged the deployment of 3D assets held on Sketchfab into the Humap system, something they had not previously considered. For SMG this enabled users to access 3D scans of fossils and sculptures. For the Humap team, this new development can be offered to other users. |
| Type Of Technology | New/Improved Technique/Technology |
| Year Produced | 2023 |
| Impact | Scarborough is Jurrasic coast territory. This project enables the museum team to tell their dinosaur history alongside more recent offerings, such as Victorian holidays and the impact of Word War One. Cross-cutting themes bring the story of the town to life for the user as they walk the trails designed by volunteers and staff. |
