High Throughput, High Performance, Low Cost Pet Medical Imaging

Lead Participant: PETRRA LIMITED

Abstract

Preliminary clinical images from PETRRA''s prototype whole-body PET camera have shown that this novel technology could provide the basis of a high quality, high speed system for mainstream clinical applications at a cost substantially lower than existing PET systems. This proposal addresses the research and development needed to prove that the existing basic PETRRA system could be made into a viable commercial system. It expects to give image quality comparable with existing PET, but as it uses Multiwire Proportional Chambers it is inherently much lower cost technology allowing a field-of-view 2.5 times larger than current PET. This much larger field-of-view doubles patient throughput, so doubling the number of pateint scans per scanner per annum. PETRRA could therefore offer the first fast whole body PET camera, especially important for cancer screening and staging. This directly supports the Governments aspirations for PET rollout in Oncology.
