Feasibility study to deploy small scale waste to energy systems (through gasification) in Pakistan

Lead Participant: ECO RESEARCH LTD

Abstract

This project is based on 2 stage gasification technology to produce clean syngas for thermally dependent industries of Pakistan, these industries include steel smelters, cement industry, ceramic industry, foundries and any other steam driven processes. We will identify both end users of our gasification technology and the waste processors to prepare solidfuel pellets for our process for wider uptake of our technology. The both type of above clients will be engaged with to exchange process requirements and contracts will be signed to enable us setting up our first pilot plant in Pakistan. We are only aiming to focus on thermal industries at this stage and later in near future we will also explore the need for electricity production market by using our technology and expertise.

We are also keen to form partnerships with Pakistani industrial partners, engineering companies and investment entities to enable wider deployment of this technology. We will identify feedstock suppliers and tests their feedstocks for suitability in our 2 stage gasification system. A techno-economic study will be conducted to show process economics at economy of scale by means of IRR, ROI etc. The de-risking of this innovative technology is by using pilot plant funding in later stage to setup a demonstration facility in the country to show the waste derived fuel diversity, clean syngas and its utilisation in various end use applications.

A preliminary design of the pilot plant will be completed together with safety review to ensure it complies with legal and Health and Safety regulations of the country. We will also engage with GoP agencies to understand environmental regulations for compliance, requirements of other stakeholders to address the issues in a holistic way. We are already having great interest from Ministry of Energy of Punjab and we will work collaboratively with them to deploy initial examples.

The outcome of this project are to conduct due diligence work and to sign contracts with Pakistani investors, industrial sites with thermal demand, waste processors, municipal corporations of various cities of Pakistan and technology licensees for our innovative technology from UK. We are aiming to have at least 3 contracts signed by the end of the feasibility study to enable us to install our first pilot plant in the country which will be used as a training and demonstration site to enhance our team and capabilities in Pakistan and to enable us for wider deployment of technology across Pakistan.
