Abstract

New centre to accelerate our journey to a sustainable future: The Social Sciences & Humanities for Climate, Energy aNd Transport Research Excellence (SSH CENTRE) project brings together 13 leading organisations from across Europe, including: 3 universities, 4 research institutions, 2 stakeholder network organisations, and 4 R&I and communications SMEs. Our partners’ world-leading expertise across Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) disciplines applied to climate, energy and mobility, as well as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) experience, will be used to develop socially innovative solutions for Europe’s climate transition. The SSH CENTRE project, which is funded by the EU and the UK, is leveraging this transdisciplinary experience to support cross sectoral collaborations and the empowerment of citizens and networks. The project’s focus is on the development of novel collaborations to facilitate the delivery of the EU Green Deal and European climate policy, as well as SSH knowledge brokerage to support regions in transition. Issues related to Open Science, inclusivity and diversity – especially with regards Southern and Eastern Europe and different career stages – are at the heart of the project. Key outputs include action-led agendas and building stakeholder synergies through regular Policy Insight events. The high-profile virtual SSH CENTRE and its members thus represent a ‘go-to' gateway for climate-energy-mobility SSH research excellence, delivering inclusive governance and engagement approaches. The Centre will share best practices for SSH policy advice, overcoming fragmentation to accelerate our journey to a sustainable future.
