Mathematical modelling of stress member collapse during optical fiber preform manufacturing

Abstract

The aim of this project is to generate and test a mathematical model that will predict glass dynamics during fiber optic preform manufacturing. This will be the first model of its kind and will enable a much deeper understanding and control of the parameter space during birefringent fiber production.
