Abstract
Analysts predict a shortfall of 10,000 train drivers in the UK by 2030 due to staff retirement and the planned expansion of the rail network. in order to address the predicted shortfall, the rail industry will need to recruit and train new drivers quicker and more effectively.
Pedagogy research shows that fully interactive, immersive digital solutions increase knowledge retention and reduce learning time compared to traditional learning methods, which is why we are developing a scenario driven rail signalling and safety desktop simulator which will improve on current classroom based training for train drivers.
