Abstract
Sir Geoffrey Vos, the Master of the Rolls and President of the UK Civil Courts, has called for a single portal for legal issue resolution, connected to online dispute systems by Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
This Feasibility Study will test a Proof of Concept of such a connected digital app offering personalised support via decision-tree, know-how and document generation, to navigate the pathway of each unique legal situation, connected via APIs to the fragmented legal support and online dispute resolution systems.
This Access to Justice project has a particular focus on supporting litigants in person in areas of family and civil disputes where legal support is not routinely available or utilised. The project has a clear need due to the personal and societal impact of a lack of legal capability amongst wide sections of society. The increasing digitisation of the court system risks the further marginalisation of underserved and excluded sections of society from understanding and enforcing their legal rights.
This project will seek to understand how an integrated and carefully designed digital service can support access to justice across the UK and help to overcome the UK's legal capability deficit.
