Project Additive: Wheel motor and Active suspension

Lead Participant: YASA LIMITED

Abstract

Project Additive is a combines YASA's latest motor technology with Domin's active suspension. Working with Cranfield University, the consortium look to create a novel propulsion technology which targets the luxury sector.

The project is focused on improving powertrain technology for electric vehicles, by making them lighter, more efficiency, improving their ride and handling and ultimately reducing cost.

About the partners involved in the project:

YASA, the project lead, is a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. YASA design and manufacture high performance electric motors and power electronics for the premium automotive industry. There focus is on novel architectures, weight reduction and efficiency improvements.

Domin are a UK privately help company that focusses on high speed hydraulic actuation. Their novel suspension technology enables weight reduction and efficiency improvements whilst offering best-in-class ride and handling.

Cranfield University have world-leading simulation capability and test facilities and will assist the consortium with digital twin modelling and vehicle powertrain design optimisation.
