3D Printed Textiles: Micro Mills to manufacture yarn and fabric from UK based, resilient, flax to linen supply chains

Lead Participant: FIELD TO FABRIC LTD

Abstract

Field to Fabric offers a hyper-local transparent yarn and fabric supply network, bringing climate beneficial textiles from UK farmers to the UK fashion and textiles industry. Our Micro-Mill technology and machinery, which bridges the gap from field to fabric, transforms carbon sequestering flax into beautiful strong linen yarn and fabric. Unlike recycled plastic yarns which shed micro plastics and cannot bio-degrade, flax is an untapped source of durable, high value, non toxic, compostable, natural fibre. In the future our technology will be extended to handle other natural fibres native to the UK, such as wool and hemp. Field to Fabric's end-to-end local supply chains will enable small batch, just-in-time yarn and fabric manufacturing. This will empower small and medium designers to make high value bespoke one-off collections, as well as allowing larger companies to gradually transition to more sustainable and ethical sourcing practices. Our Micro-Mills will be owned and operated by local communities, provide meaningful jobs and serve as educational facilities.
