HySaaS (Hydrogen Storage as a Service)
Lead Participant:
HIVE HYDROGEN LIMITED
Abstract
Project HySaaS will help address the need for lower cost S&D solutions with a feasibility study on deploying a Storage as a Service (SaaS) business model within the developing UK hydrogen market. This study will cover three key areas:
Customer Cost -- S&D solutions are capital intensive, particularly for small-to-medium sized hydrogen projects. The SaaS model will evaluate offering rented hydrogen storage on a full-systems basis. This will cover individual cylinders, fixed and transportable storage to minimise the Total Cost of Ownership of S&D within complete hydrogen value chains.
Safety -- Monitoring of pressure vessels is currently at a bundle level -- where numerous cylinders have been manifolded together into a single unit. However, the service conditions seen by individual cylinders can vary widely , which is not always understood or recorded. Therefore, HySaaS will demonstrate cylinder-level monitoring of cylinders in operational conditions to track a cylinder's operational profile in a digital passport. This enables risk identification, monitoring, and prevention and benefits the consortium's existing and future customers.
Business model innovation -- HySaaS will study the implications of deploying the SaaS model for hydrogen S&D assets.
