South Yorkshire Net Zero Investment Pipeline

Abstract

Scaling up investment in Net Zero projects developed by the local government sector in the UK faces a common challenge: private sector investors encounter difficulty in identifying and sourcing readily and viable Net Zero investment opportunities. Similarly, local councils struggle to enhance existing innovative ideas and explore new avenues for innovation for local communities and address behavioural change, as well as effectively plan their responses to these opportunities.

To overcome this impediment, it is crucial for place leaders is to establish a register of locally and regionally led, bankable Net Zero projects and adopt a people-centric and planet centric approach. By fostering a deep understanding of the communities' aspirations and concerns, private sector investors can better align their ESG strategies with local goals, ensuring that the investments not only support Net Zero objectives but also drive positive socio-economic impacts.

This approach emphasizes collaborative engagement and an open dialogue between stakeholders, fostering an ecosystem where innovative Net Zero solutions can contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future for both the region and its residents.
