Abstract
Currently there is a major problem with mobility worldwide, particularly in the elderly community, and no satisfactory solution. Our aim is to improve the mobility of UK and international citizens by introducing a simple to use sensor based system that quantifies mobility issues to enable health professionals to provide the correct treatment or a targeted rehabilitation programme. Our test will form part of the routine care pathway, providing both the patient and health professional with clear objective data on where the gait kinematics deviate from normal plus a simple animation to help with the understanding. Individuals can track their own progress through the treatment and rehabilitation cycle. The short, 10 minute procedure will be performed in the clinical or home environment, depending upon the type of mobility issue. The groups of people most likely to benefit are the elderly at risk of falling, patients undergoing joint replacements and people suffering from neurological conditions such as stroke or Parkinson’s disease.
