Advanced Carbon and Energy Management and Eco-design Platform for Urban Districts

Lead Participant: NPS HUMBER LIMITED

Abstract

The Chinese 13th Five-Year Plan sets out its green development – part of its quantitative targets is to increase the share of non-fossil fuel energy to 15% by 2020. A key challenge is smart data management for energy and carbon within urban areas. There are gaps in between planners, designers, site managers and the end users, and eventually, how to interpret energy data so as to support energy saving or renewable applications within buildings.

Addressing this challenge, this project aims to develop an advanced cloud-computing platform for urban level carbon & energy management and eco-design, which is functioned to evaluate and manage the fossil fuel energy consumption and saving, predict and control carbon and other contaminants emissions, manage the renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies application, and develop eco-designs at urban/district levels.

The cloud-computing platform will enable smart urban planning and energy & environment systems monitoring and optimisation, thus achieving fossil fuel energy saving, carbon reduction as well as promoting renewable energy technologies application.

Widely use of the platform licenses in Guangdong will definitely contribute China toward achieving its green development, economically, introducing an innovation-driven business based on this platform, it is estimated that the possible annual turnover could be approximately 50m CNY, therefore generating significant economic and social benefits to both China and the UK.
