DNA data management portal: Development of the tools, features and safeguards to ensure the public can access, understand, manage and share their digital genetic information online securely.

Lead Participant: SANO GENETICS LIMITED

Abstract

"We are Sano Genetics, a leading developer of innovative digital health platforms, focussed on DNA and genetic sequencing and data.

As the market for DNA sequencing - both public and private (£19.2bn by 2025;19% CAGR-[Allied Market Research][0]:2017) - continues to grow, as does the volume of personal health data stored. Whilst this opens up new opportunities for drug discovery, providing quicker access to target patient groups and reducing the recruitment cost of medical research it also raises serious concerns in regard to personal privacy, how health data is used, its ownership, and who ultimately has access to it and for how long.

With this in mind, there is an urgent need to develop the tools and safeguards to ensure users can access, understand, manage and control who they share their digital genetic information with securely and effectively.

Working with Genomics England '100,000 Genomes Project' and big genome data analysts Zetta Genomics, we intend address with the development of a secure, user-centric data management and consent platform for genetic data that put the power to share and ownership of data back in the hands of users, away from the platforms that collect it.
