An edition of Galen, de alinentorum facultatibus (On the Powers of Foods)

Abstract

I am producing a Greek text, translation and commentary of Galen's On the Powers of Foods for the Bude' edition of all Galen's works. The Greek text was last edited in 1923. Two recent translations have been heavily criticised. Nutrition was one the three key are of ancient medicine. I will aim this addition at scholars and the general public, with notes on the link with a second key area, pharmacology; on Gelen's intellectual world; on the position of the treatise within a vast output; and on the social commentary on food and class which he provides.
