Intelligent City Transportation - Infrastructure (ICT-i)

Abstract

The ICT-i project will undertake a preparatory study into issues relating to an Internet of Things (IoT) demonstrator in the area of metropolitan transport and traffic data. The project will examine 3 fundamental issues; the revenue models needed to ensure the commercial viability of an IoT ecosystem in transport/traffic information, the interoperability of data sets and of data stores and finally the requirements for high availability infrastructure to deliver reliable services to end users. The vision is metropolitan data store in which traffic and transport data is available via published API's to an apps developer community who create value adding services to end uses thereby generating new revenue streams and improving passenger experience. The project is led by the award winning Cloud technology business, AIMES and includes one of the UK's major integrated passenger transport authorities, Merseytravel, the leading passenger transport aggregator, Placr and Avanti the satellite infrastructure business. The IoT convergence opportunities for innovative digital services in the transport/traffic arena are significant and the ICT-i project will deliver new thinking on business models, interoperability and infrastructure
