Improved Process Monitoring by Novel Long Pathlength Optical Cell

Lead Participant: TDL SENSORS LIMITED

Abstract

Laser based gas analysers are becoming the instrument of choice in the process monitoring industry. The performance of a laser based gas analyser is directly related to the length of the optical path of the laser beam within the measurement volume. Currently this pathlength is limited by the optical design of the measurement cell which utilises spherical mirrors to reflect the beam back and forth through the cell. This project will undertake a feasibility study to demonstrate a new analyser measurement cell using a novel but easily manufactured optical design which will give an order of magnitude increase in optical pathlength when compared to the existing design. Such a cell will provide the company with a competitive edge and provide new opportunities for customers wishing to utilise our economical, precise and robust laser based gas analysers for monitoring their processes.
